Obiturary

On Thursday, August 7, occurred the death of Mrs. James Nowning, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Wade, south of Collins. Mrs. Nowning had been ailing for a long time, and was very old, being almost seventy years of age. The funeral was held in the church at Iowa Center, 11 a.m., Saturday and she was buried in the cemetery there.

Rev. C.E.Burton, of Seymour, Iowa, at one time her pastor at Dalton, preached the sermon and read the following obituary:

Abigal Smith was born in Marion Co, Indiana, March 18, 1846, and died August 7, 1913, aged 67 years, 4 months, and 21 days. She was married to James Nowning April 12, 1866. Ten children was born to this union, six girls and four boys of which all are living except two daughters who preceded her to the world beyond. She leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, eight children, seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends.

More than fifty years have passed since Mr. and Mrs. Nowning moved into the Dalton neighborhood. She had been a faithful member of the U.B. church at Dalton for years. She was a woman of true Christian character dearly beloved by all who knew her and her death is a cause of grief to her many friends.
