Leona M. Smith, 75, of Cape Coral, Fla., and formerly of Keystone, died Feb. 21, 2006 in Cape Coral.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Pastor Norman Bennett officiating. Internment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may register at the church from 1 p.m., until service time. A Memorial Fund has been established for Salem United Methodist Church. Leona was born March 9, 1930 in Tipton, the daughter of Guy and Esther (Sissel) Maurer. She received her elementary teacher's certificate and taught for many years. Leona and her beloved husband, Delbert, were long time members of Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne. They were charter members of Hope United Methodist Church in Cape Coral, Fla., where she was very active and served on many committees. They were also associate members of the Ely United Methodist Church in Ely, Minn. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Leona was an important member of Woman of Hope. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and fishing. She loved to talk and visit with friends and family. She was extremely proud of all of her family. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Leona had a strong faith and was blessed with the love of the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her beloved husband of 55 years, Delbert Smith of Cape Coral, Fla.; three daughters, Susan (Dennis) Wallace of Minneapolis, Minn., Debra (Mark) Rhoades of Cedar Falls, Sherry (Steve) Gehlsen of Ames; one brother, William (Noriko) Maurer of Marquette, Mich.; one sister, Mary (Tom) Beemer Moore of Punta Gorda, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Leigh, Sarah, Meagan, Elizabeth, Adam, Emily, Lucas, Allison and Ryan; and three great grandchildren, Willow, Ayla and Liam.
