THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, February 24, 2006.

Florence Faga Bireline, 97, of Ames and formerly of Adair, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Northcrest Health Care Center in Ames. Committal services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair with the Rev. Ray A. Holmquist officiating.

Florence Elizabeth Faga Bireline was born Sept. 8, 1908, in Grant Township, in Guthrie County, the daughter of Charles and Dora (Krumm) Faga. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Adair and attended parochial and rural schools. She graduated from the Adair High School in 1928 and attended Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI) and then taught at St. John's parochial school.

She married Glenn Bireline of rural Adair March 4, 1931, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Adair. They farmed in Audubon and Guthrie counties and in 1941, moved to a farm west of Adair where they lived until 1974, when they moved into Adair.

She served as zone president of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League; was a member of the Adair Women's Federated Club, Civic League, S.S. & S. Club, and was a 4-H leader. She also served as a board member of the Adair-Casey Community School, the Adair Community Health Center and the Little Cherubs pre-school at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair.

She moved to Ames in 1986 and joined Bethesda Lutheran Church, where she was active in the women's Bible study group and quilting groups. She became a resident of the Northcrest Community in September 1993.

She is survived by one daughter, Joanne Frederiksen and her husband, Charles, of Ames; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Bireline of Adair; one sister, Verna Krause of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Gene; one sister, Velma; and one grandson, Pastor Paul Frederiksen.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Northcrest Heartwood House in Ames.

Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair is in charge of arrangements.
