THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 14, 2006.
Minnie K. Bates, 85, of Ames, died Monday, Feb. 12, at Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Ames First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Minnie was born July 7, 1920, in Kamrar, the daughter of Harm and Dena (Lente) Klaver. She grew up on a farm in Kamrar. She married Clifford Bates in 1940. She worked as a design technician for the Iowa Department of Transportation from 1957 until she retired in 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ames; the United Methodist Women, where she had been an active circle member for more than 50 years, and was a charter member of the Cyclone Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She was born on the seventh day of the seventh month, was the seventh born and had seven brothers.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna (Dennis) Stone of Marshalltown; one son and daughter-in-law, Doug (Connie) Bates of Nevada; four grandchildren, Clint (Tawnya) Stone, Dena (Tim) Eischen, Kelly (Jason) Rand and Cindy Bates; and three great-grandchildren: Kylie, Kaitlyn and Lily.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson: Clifford H. Bates; and seven brothers Eilt Klaver, George Klaver, Fred Klaver, Ben Klaver, Harm Klaver, Dan Klaver and Wilbur Klaver.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
