THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 14, 2006.
John Wesley Greenig, 83, of Nevada died Sunday, Feb. 12, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with the Rev. David Burling officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
John was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Kasota, Minn., to William and Birdie (Flum) Greenig. He married Alice Ann Seifert May 5, 1944, in North Mankato, Minn. He retired in 1998 as a crane operator for Hallett Construction. He had been a resident of Nevada since 1995. They also had lived in Lakeview and Mankato, Minn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, roller skating and driving race cars.
He is survived by one daughter, Carol (Joe) Shay of Nevada; three granddaughters, Tammy Amundson of Marshalltown, Julie Zahnd of Bellevue, Neb., and Dawn Pieper of Eldora; six great-grandchildren, Brandon John Crossman, Amanda Zahnd, Marriah Lyon, Brooklyn Amundson, Chantel Sievers and Breanna Sievers;
and one brother, Lewis Greenig of Kailua Kona, Hawaii.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Nov. 13, 1997; one brother, Carl Greenig; and one sister, Margaret Greenig.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
A memorial fund has been established in John's name for Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
