THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 10, 2006.

Katherine L. Rau, 78, of Story City, peacefully slipped into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, Jan. 8. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will be in Center Cemetery near Story City.

Katherine married Alfred E. Rau May 29, 1949, at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Story City. Along with Al, they started their pastoral itinerary in 1952, ministering in churches at Ventura, Webster City and Coon Rapids before retiring in 1986 to their home in Story City.

She is survived by her husband, Al of Story City; four sons, Geoffrey of Des Moines, Stephen (Linda) of Gunnison, Colo., Keith (Julie) of Iowa Falls and Chad (Carrie) of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Thompson of Story City; and one brother, Dr. Robert Larson (Helen) of Story City.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Memorials may be made to Red Bird Mission, Grace United Methodist Church, or Homeward Hospice. One of her favorite Bible verses was the promise from Jesus, "...I go to prepare a place for you and will come again to receive you into myself..." John 14.
