THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 3, 2006.

John Evan Rardin, 50 of Story City and formerly of Nevada, died of a fatal gunshot wound while vacationing in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. The body has been cremated and there will be no services.

John was born on July 9, 1955, in Culbertson, Neb., to Kenneth and Nellie (Sinclair) Rardin. He received a degree in engineering in 1984 from Hawkeye Tech College in Waterloo. Due to an injury, he retired early from the Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. He was a resident of Nevada prior to moving to Story City three years ago. He was a member of numerous fishing clubs. He was passionate about fishing and loved spending time with his grandson, Kaden.

He is survived by one daughter, Andrea J. Carsrud of Ames; one son, Matthew Rardin of Slater; Vickie Rardin of Waterloo; and one grandson, Kaden Main.

He was preceded in death by his father.
