THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, December 27, 2005.

Orion M. Huffer, 80 of Ames died Friday, Dec. 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, at Beatty Funeral Home, 107 South 15th Ave., in Washington with the Rev. Randy Bobzien of Marion officiating. Burial will be in North Hill Cemetery north of Wayland. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from noon until time of service. Memorials may be designated to First Baptist Church in Marion.

Orion was born March 28, 1925, near Imogene in rural Fremont County, the son of Raymond and Charlotte (DePuew) Huffer. He married Anna Mae (Graber) June 13, 1948, in Iowa City. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. He visited First Baptist Church of Marion often.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army as soon as he became 18 years old, but was allowed to finish school, graduating from Shenandoah High School. He served with the 13th Armored Division (Black Cats) in many countries in Europe. When he returned, he studied engineering at the University of Iowa. Upon graduation, he was employed by the Iowa Highway Deptartment. (now the DOT). He retired at the age of 70.

He is survived by one daughter, Carol Buhr and her husband, Orlin, of Marion; one grandson, Brian Buhr and his wife, Monica, of Chula Vista, Calif.; one great-granddaughter Nataly; three brothers, Raymond C Huffer of Plano, Texas, Maurice Huffer and his wife, Dorothy, of Jackson, Mich., and Robert Huffer and his wife, Thelma, of Story City; two sisters, Nola Elliott and her husband, Russell, of Fort Madison and Ellen Robertson of Coralville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae; an infant brother, James; and his parents Raymond and Charlotte Huffer.
