TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 22, 2005.

Carolyn Arlene Lein Finch, 90, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Interment was at the Bethany Cemetery in Kelley.

Arlene Lein Finch was born August 14, 1915 in Slater to George and Helen Christianson. She was baptized September 12, 1915 and confirmed March 30, 1930 in the Lincoln Lutheran Church at Slater. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, Noble Christianson, Hazel Christianson Strother, Gladys Christianson Dickerson, Stanley Christianson and Marvin Christianson; and a grandson, Nicholas Lundgren.

Arlene attended Lincoln Elementary School through 8th grade and Slater High graduating in 1934.

Arlene married Orlin Marvin Lein on December 22, 1934. They initially lived on the family farm near Kelley. They moved to a farm neat Polk City for a year and a half before returning to Kelley.

From this marriage four children were born. Bonnie Lein Stone of Houghton, Texas, Larry Lein of Kansas City, Missouri, Julie Lein Lundgren of Lehigh, Iowa and Debbie Lein Sauser of Williamsburg, Iowa. Arlene also had ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family spent their summer vacations camping at the Iowa State Fair and being very involved with showing club claves through 4-H. Throughout her life, Arlene worked as a farm wife - raising cattle and helping with the fieldwork. She also spent fourteen years working in alterations for Durlam and Durlam clothing in Ames.

Orlin passed away December 4, 1974 and Arlene then moved into Slater.

In 1980 Arlene married Ben Finch. They continued to make their home in Slater until Ben passed away in 2000. From this marriage Arlene welcomed two step-children, Kay Finch and Suzy Anderson, four step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren to her family. Ben and Arlene enjoyed traveling, league bowling and spending time with friends and family.

Arlene lived at Ballard Creek Assisted Living in Huxley for two years and then moved to the Madrid Home in 2003.

Arlene was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church for over 60 plus years and ladies circles. She loved to sing and sang in the Bethany Church choir, the Story County choir, and the Slater Community Choir. She was active in 4-H throughout her life as a member when she was growing up and as a leader as an adult.

Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
