THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 1, 2005.
L. Charlene Cole, 94, of Nevada, died Nov. 29, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery. Leta Charlene Cole was born April 19, 1911, to J.L. (Lewis) and Agnes A. (Young) Stiegelmeier in Story County. She was baptized at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and was a 1929 graduate of Nevada High School. She married Ernest Cole Dec. 2, 1931, at Salem Parsonage in Roland by the Rev. Olaf Holen. They farmed in the Roland area and for 10 years near Forest City.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was a housewife and worked 10 years at Bournes. She liked to do needlework, read, do puzzles and all church activities. Her family was very important to her.
She is survived by one daughter, Agnes Virginia Hiatt of Ames; one son, Richard Lee (Eileen) Cole of Chatfield, Minn.; one sister, Bonnie Anderson of Ames; 13 grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Edith Cole of Story City; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; her son, Clyde; an infant son; three sisters, Imogene Lou Kitchen, Doris Glendella Logan and Rena Ione Peterson; and one brother, Clyde Arthur Stiegelmeier.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday Dec. 2, with the family present after 5 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.
Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
