THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, December 1, 2005.

Viola Alma Tjarks, 88, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Luther Manor in Dubuque, where she had been a resident for the last five years. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Viola was born March 28, 1917, in Eldora to Alma (Wilson) and Judson Radley. She lived most of her life in the Ellsworth and Ames areas. She married Arend H. Tjarks Aug. 25, 1935. She was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Schmidt of Dubuque and Marilyn (Don) Kolbe of Story City; one son, Fred Tjarks of Roland; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister-in-law, Edna Tjarks of Missouri Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one infant daughter; one son-in-law; three sisters; one half sister; and one half brother.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting the family.
