The following brief obituary was read at the services.
George Franklin Holland, better known to his many friends as Frank, was born Jue 9, 1869, at Greencastle, Jasper Co., Iowa and passed away at his home in Collins, Nov. 9, 1945.
He came to Collins in 1890 and was married to Flora Denniston on Jan. 2, 1897. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive. The wife and mother passed away July 8, 1939.
Surviving Mr. Holland are the two sons, Lloyd D. of Collins and Vern E. of Oak Park, Ill., two daughters, Mrs. Esther Smith of Des Moines and Mrs. Marie Ryan of Denver, Colo., nine grandchildren, one brother, William, and a sister, Olive Holland, both of Maxwell.
Mr. Holland was a member of Collins Methodist church and did much to promote the welfare of that church and other churches in the community. He was an active member of Fervent Lodge No. 513 A.F. & A.M. and a Past Patron of the Collins Chapter O.E.O. He was a man who stood for the eternal qualities of life and we find his spirit alive in the hearts of many whom he has helped. His death was due to heart complications and he had been ill for some time but was able to be down town. Although it was well known that his condition was serious his death came as a great shock to the community. He was a fine citizen and will be greatly missed in this community.
