Final Rites Held On Thursday For Mrs. William Hansen

Relatives, friends and neighbors exceeding the capacity of Memorial Lutheran church Thursday afternoon at the final rites for the late Mrs. William Hansen, victim of a Sunday afternoon motor crash. Mrs. Hansen, wife of a young farmer of northwest of Nevada, was instantly killed and her husband and three children were injured in a crash on an intersection of No. 69, seven miles north of Colo.

Floral offerings banked the bier in front of the altar when the family and friends gathered to hear a splendid tribute of respect paid to the beloved women by Dr. J. O. Simon, her pastor for many years.

Harry Christiansen presided at the organ and there were two vocal numbers by Mrs. J. O. Simon and Mrs. Christiansen singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," as duets.

Following the service at the church the body was taken to the Nevada cemetery for interment.

The deceased was born in Chicago, November 17, 1903, Antoinette, daughter of Harry B. and Catherine Bowman. In the life sketch read by Mr. Porter during the service, he said

"She attended school in Chicago, graduating in 1918 and later spent a year in a business college, after which she took up secretarial work until her marriage November 26, 1924 when she was united in marriage to William Hansen. They continued their home in Chicago until 1931, when they came out to Iowa and located on a farm belonging to Mr. Hansen's father, northwest of Nevada.

"The two older children, Sally Jane 16, and Barbarra, 14, were both born in Chicago and the son, Charles Summerfield, after they came out to Nevada.

"Of the immediate family, only her mother, together with the husband and three children survive her. Among more distant relatives are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who mourn her death most sincerely.

"Mr. and Mrs. Hansen united with the Memorial Lutheran church in Nevada in April, 1933. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

"Mrs. Hansen was a woman of very fine character, always kind and considerate to all, ever jovial and wearing a kindly smile even amid all trials. She was a devoted wife and mother and always considerate and tender toward her mother.

"The family and home have suffered a great loss. She will be missed and mourned by a wide circle of friends. The sympathy of this entire community goes out to all of those who mourn in this time of their sorrow and loss. It is our prayer that God may comfort and bless those whose hearts are heavy and sorrow laden in this time of their great bereavement."

Even though seriously injured, the husband was finally permitted to attend the funeral service, as was the second daughter, Barbarra, who was less seriously injured.

The two older children, then still unconscious at the Iowa sanitarium under care of trained nurses, were, of course, not able to attend the service.

Casket bearers for the funeral were Phillip Allen, Mack Allen, George Allen, Myron Boten, Fred Sorensen.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Alta Karges and Clara Peterson.

The Second Ward Ladies of the Memorial Lutheran church served dinner for the family and friends at the home northwest of town at the noon hour.
