Mrs. Hans Jacobson Laid to Rest in Nevada Cemetery

Final rites for Mrs. Hans Jacobson, 76, longtime resident of Richland township, who died at Iowa sanitarium Tuesday evening, were held Thursday afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church, followed by interment in the Nevada cemetery.

The church was well filled with relatives and old neighbors and friends anxious to pay a final tribute to one when they had long known, and respected.

The floral offerings were many, completely banking the bier, which was before the altar of the church.

Harry Christiansen was at the organ and played as a prelude, "One Sweetly, Solemn Thought," and in opening Dr. Simon read his text from this thought.

The reading of the scripture and prayer was followed by the playing of Dvorack's "Going Home," by Mr. Christiansen.

Following the reading of a brief life sketch of the deceased came the sermon of Dr. J. O. Simon, her long-time pastor and friend.

The following brief obituary of the deceased was prepared and read by the pastor during the service.

"Mrs. Hans Jacobson, 76, passed away Tuesday evening at 9 o'clock after a lingering illness, the past three years of which she has been confined to Iowa sanitarium for care and treatment, all of the time under the care of a special nurse.

"Born in Sweden June 24, 1865, the deceased was raised in that country, coming alone to America in her early 20's, her destination being Ottawa, Ill. There she met Hans Jacobson, to whom she was married September 21, 1892.

After eight years in Illinois they came out to Iowa and located on a farm in Richland township which continued as the family home until she took ill and came to Iowa sanitarium for treatment and care three years ago.

"She leaves besides her husband, one daughter, Betsy, now Mrs. Clarence Morfoot of Nevada, a granddaughter, Grace Larsen of Columbia, Mo., one brother in Sweden, and another in Denmark. A sister died in Wisconsin in November, 1933.

"Mrs. Jacobson was a woman of very fine character, greatly devoted to her home and family and took her long illness with fortitude and patience.

"She is kindly remembered by a wide circle of friends as a good friend and neighbor."

The pallbearers, selected among the families of her old neighborhood were Conrad Swanson, B. F. Swanson, Leslie Toot, John Picht, Clarence Hilburn and Alvin Nelson.
