Funeral Services for Ira Franklin, Collins Pioneer
Collins, May 1 -- Funeral services for the late Ira Franklin, who passed away Thursday morning at his home near Collins, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Church of Christ with the pastor, the Rev. Lloyd Z. Patton, officiating.
Music was provided by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. Geo. Holmes, E. S. Stuntz and Tom Huntrods with Mrs. Hugh Fertig as accompanist. The songs were "Going Down the Valley," "Rock of Ages" and "Does Jesus Care?"
The flowers were cared for by Mrs. R. G. Patton and Mrs. Dennis Halterman. Interment was in the Collins cemetery by the side of the parents. The pallbearers were P. J. Wetrich, C. Schlarb, W. A. Kitchell, R. G. Patton, Carl Day and L. E. Patterson.
The following short sketch of the life of the deceased was read by the pastor at the services.
"Ira Franklin, second child and first son of Ed and Amanda Franklin was born in Jones county, Ia., Feb. 14, 1869, and departed this life on April 24, 1941, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 10 days.
"In 1871 he moved with his parents to Story county to the farm west of Collins since known as the Franklin farm. There he lived the last few years together with his brother, Ben.
"He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
"He leaves to mourn his passing, three brothers, Benjamin, Lawrence and Jacob Franklin. Spending almost his entire life in the Collins community it was inevitable that he should make many acquaintances and friends, all of whom will deeply miss him."
