Death of Ruxton Was Blow to Zearing Community

Special to the Journal:
Zearing, Dec. 13 -- The recent sudden death of Dave Ruxton of heart failure came as a surprising shock to the people of this community.

Mr. Ruxton had not been well for some time, and had been taking treatments, and had recently been at the hospital in Rochester, Minn. His condition was not considered serious. He had rented his farm to Will Gray who is to take possession March 1, at which time he and Mrs. Ruston intended to move to town where tasks of life would be lightened from the strenuous farm work.

David Wallace Ruston, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam K. Ruxton as born on a farm south of McCallsburg, July 6, 1877, and has lived in Story county all his life. The past 47 years he has lived on the farm that lay just outside of the town limits to his eternal rest Dec. 2, 1940, at the age of 63 years, four months and 29 days.

He was untied in marriage to Miss Tecia Bainter on Jan. 26, 1910, who mourns his passing, He also eaves two sisters, Mrs. Belle Norton of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Jennie Chance of near Zearing, and one brother, James Ruxton, also of near Zearing, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

To Mr. Ruxton his home was his kingdom. Whether in his fields with his growing crops or busy with chore or at his fireside, he got a great deal out of life and in a way passed much of this on to his fellow men. As one of his neighbors put it, "Dave was a swell fellow, respected by all and we neighbors are going to miss him in a great many ways. His passing certainly marks the end of a busy, useful life."

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical church with Rev. R. E. Kerney officiating. Interment was in the local cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of the Brouhard Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were chosen from among his neighbors and friends and were Russell Deal, Will Gray, I. S. Madison, R. M. Lightfoot, Guy Clatterbuck and Robert Comfort.

Mrs. Kenneth Weaver of Union sang several solos, with Mrs. Lyle Bailey as pianist. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Russell Deal, Mrs. Will Gray and Mrs. W. C. Brouhard, Sr. Raymond and Arthur Kleespie were ushers.

Those from away attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bainter of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Norton, Mrs. Mae Thatcher, Mrs. Jack Sager, Mrs. Ben Sager, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Wells, Mildred Thompson, Lela Galloway, Mrs. Orpha Fox, all of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Art Ruxton, Mrs. Chester Modlin of Eldora, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Howard, Mrs. Maude Kelley of Des Moines; Mrs. Sherman Griffith of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Elliott of Albion, Mr. and Mrs. Louie LaPlant, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meekins, Mrs. Donald Dakins of St. Anthony; Mrs. Martha Dillin of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Haukoos, Mrs. John Schauper, Mrs. Guy Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Olson and son Weston, Mrs. Amanda Schwartz and Mrs. Martin Bergland, all of McCallsburg, Mrs. W----, Mrs. J. R. Meekins, Clyde D--by of Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Maultby of Eldora and possibly others.
