Funeral Service at St. Marys for Anthony O. McCoy

Funeral services for Anthony O. McCoy, 70, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Colo, at 9:30 o'clock on Monday, Feb 19, with the Rev. N. A. Steffen celebrating the requiem low mass. Pallbearers were M. R. McCoy, R. F. O'Donnell, Roger Hopkins, F. E, Gales, A. M. Gales and W. N. Gales, all nephews of the deceased.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Roger Hopkins and Paul Donnelly accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Frances O'Donnell. The beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Chas. Yeager and Mrs. Roy Greiner. Interment was at the St. James cemetery at Colo.

Anthony Oliver McCoy, son of Roger and Bridget McCoy, was born Aug. 28, 1869 on the old McCoy homestead near Colo and passed away at the home in Colo Feb. 16, 1940 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 19 days.

Six brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

He received his education in the Colo schools and attended the Marshalltown business college, after which he was in the real estate business for a time in Webster City and was employed in the Nevada and Colo banks. Later he engaged in farming, an occupation which he continued until about 5 years ago when he moved to Colo. At the time of his death he was assistant postmaster in Colo. With the exception of about 4 years spent in South Dakota, he lived his entire life in this community.

On Oct. 11, 1899, he was untied in marriage with Miss Mary E. Hamm in St. George's Catholic church at Armour, S. D. To this union were born four sons, James, Charles, Arlyn and Archie.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and son, three grandchildren, and his sister, Mrs. Ella Hopkins of Colo, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were his sons, Charles and family of Clinton and Arlyn of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Gales and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Gales of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Gales of Moline, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knapp of Waterloo, Misses Ella and Blanche Hopkins of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. O'Donnell of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moon of Zearing, Carroll Hamm, Mrs. E. V. Petted and Mrs. Elmer Rasmussen of Des Moines, C. P. Hamm of Armour, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Jas. O'Donnell of Williams, Miss Mary Jane O'Donnell of Des Moines, Mrs. S. W. Dee of Rochelle, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Stedman of Eagle Grove, and Don Stedman of Ft. Dodge.
