Death of Mrs. Mary A. Wellington

OBITUARY--Mrs. Mary A. Wellington, wife of F. B. Wellington, deceased, mother of Mrs. Charlotte Wier, Mrs. Mary J. Blakeslee, Rev. W. H. Wellington and J. A. Wellington, was born September 12, 1813, in Ulster county, New York, and died February 3, at 2:15 a. m. in Story City, Iowa, aged 82 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She was married to F. B. Wellington in Auburn, N. Y., December 28, 1834, thus spending more than 55 years of married lie before the union was severed by the death of the husband.

Mrs. Wellington was the mother of nine children--five daughters and four sons. Four of these are still living two sons and two daughters. Six of them grew to maturity, the other three dying in youth. Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church at eleven o'clock, Wednesday, February 5, 1896. Rev. Wirth preached a touching sermon from 2 Cor. 5:1 and Rev. 14:13 afterwhich the precious remains of this now angel mother were gently laid to rest by the side of those of the husband and father in the Sheffield cemetery.

"O death, where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory? Ever toiling diligently, she did whate'er her hands found to do, cheering the weak, raising the family, blessing the home. Patience was her crowning virtue; a kind word for all, her motto. She was one of those characters that think it better to give than to receive. For such an one to live is Christ and to die is gain.
