MRS. C. A. THOMPSON

Mrs. C. A. Thompson, whose maiden name was Hattie Knutson, was a daughter of Knute Holverson and his wife Rulda Anderson, who had come from Norway many years ago, and had settled in the vicinity of Story City. She was born on a farm a short distance south of this place on August 3rd, 1880, and grew to womanhood in this same community.

Her marriage to C. A. Thompson took place at Story City July 19th, 1911, after which she, with her husband, lived in this vicinity for about three years, or until they moved to Butterfield, Minn., and later to St. James, Minn., where the remainder of her life was spent. To them two children, a daughter and a son, were born, of whom the daughter died in infancy.

Mrs. Thompson had been in her usual state of health until in recent days when she became afflicted with a severe case of appendicitis. She was removed to the St. James hospital Saturday morning and submitted to an operation from which she failed to rally. All that loving hands and medical skill were able to do was of no avail. She passed on to her eternal reward on Saturday, August 19, 1939, after she had attained the age of 59 years and 16 days.

She is survived by her sorrowing husband; one son, Carl [Karl]; six brothers, Halvor, Knut, Andrew, Nels, Ole and Julius, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Doolittle, all of Story City, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

It is said of her that she read her Bible daily and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the First Lutheran church in St. James, with Rev. N. I. Evenson officiating. Acting pallbearers were Frank Westman, Albert Schloman, Geo. Spitzner, Ubbe Hendricks, Harry Sanders and John Larson.

Among the out of town people at the funeral in St. James were Andrew, Knute and Ole Knutson, Mrs. Mary Doolittle, Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. John A. Johnson, all of Story City, and Mr. and Mrs. John Thomson and son of Clay Center, Kn.

The body was taken to Story City the same evening.

Funeral services were held here Wednesday, August 23, with Rev. Bergeman officiating, at the home of Mrs. Mary Doolittle and at the Grace church. A quartet consisting of Mrs. Chas. Fuller, Mrs. Ruth Donhowe, George Sowers and Arnold Anderson, sang two selections, with Vernon Anderson accompanying on the organ. The pallbearers were Oliver Jacobs, John A. Johns, Rhiner Honderd, Jas. Johnson, Hans Johnson and Chas. Wier. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.
