J. THORSBAKKEN LAID TO REST

Funeral and Interment Service for Well Known Man Who Died at Buffalo Center Friday Were Held Here Monday Afternoon.

John M. Thorsbakken, 55, died last Friday at the Buffalo Center hospital. He was taken there suffering from a bursted appendix, from which complications resulted and caused his death.

The body was brought here Monday after a brief service at the home and in the Lutheran church at Elmore, Minn., at which place he had lived the past three years.

The funeral service was held here in the Immanuel church at 3 in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. Sev. Gjerde of Elmore, assisted by Rev. Heimarck, local pastor.

The Hove quartet sang "He the Pearly Gates Will Open," and Marvin Teigland Earl Egesdal sang a duet at the service at Elmore, and at the Story City service a beautiful song was rendered by Mrs. Ben Anderson and daughter, with Miss Alsager at the organ.

The pall bearers were: Nels Ihle, Geo. Wicks, John Larson, Oscar Thompson, Gus Underbakke and Cornelius Odson. A large number of relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to a man who had long been a valued neighbor and friend. Among these from a distance were: Rev. and Mrs. Gjerde, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Thompson and Iva and Harlan, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wicks, Mr. and Mrs. John Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Nelson, Mrs. Sheldahl, Cornelius Odson, all of Elmore; Mr. and Mrs. Marius Thorsbakken and daughter Jean of St. Croix, Wis., Mrs. Ole Knutson of Harland, Minn.; together with a large number from Stanhope and Jewell neighborhood.

Obituary

Johan M. Thorsbakken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Thorsbakken, was born near Oslo, Norway, January 14, 1883, and passed away at the Buffalo Center hospital on July 29, 1938, at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 15 days.

He came to America in the year of 1903, spending most of his life around Story City and Stanhope, Iowa.

He was united in marriage with Carrie Chelley of Story City, on March 27, 1930. To this union one child Clarice Marie, was born.

In the year 1935 he and his family moved to Elmore, where he lived until his death.

Besides his wife and daughter he leaves to mourn his departure, four brothers, Ole of Story City, Anders of Jewell, Marius of St. Croix, Wis., and Even in Norway. His parents, one sister and five brothers have preceded him in death.

He was a loving husband, a dear father and a good neighbor. "Blessed are they who die in the Lord."
