JULIUS ERSLAND DIED ON FRIDAY

Former Story City Boy Succumbed to Heart Failure--Funeral and Interment Here Monday Afternoon.

Funeral services for Julius N. Ersland, 37, were held in Story City Monday afternoon, with Rev. Paulsrud officiating in the Bethel church and at the cemetery.

He passed away suddenly at his home in Burlington from heart failure.

He is survived by his wife and son, Neil, 4 years old, and sisters Mrs. Omar Tegland and Mrs. Theo. Jacobson, and one brother, E. J. Engebritson.

Obituary

Neil Julius Ersland, son of Thomas and Anna Ersland, was born on his parents' homestead four miles northwest of Story City, Iowa, Dec. 3, 1901, and passed away very suddenly at Burlington, Iowa, July 29, 1938 at the age of 36 years and 8 months. A heart attack was the cause of his death, and it was a terrible shock to members of his family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Bethel Lutheran church, followed by burial in the Story City cemetery, with Rev. G. O. Paulsrud in charge, who also had baptized and confirmed the deceased.

Julius was reared in this community and graduated from Story City High school. After graduation he studied pharmacy in Iowa City and Des Moines university, and received his diploma at that place, and has since been engaged in the drug business.

Six years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Heitritter. To this union one child was born.

Mr. Ersland's parents have preceded him in death, and he leaves to mourn his sudden departure, besides his wife and child; one brother, Elvin Engebritson; two sisters, Mrs. Millie Tegland and Mrs. Agnes Jacobson, all of Story City.

Two appropriate vocal numbers were sung at the funeral service, a solo by Philip Paulsrud and a duet by Mrs. Ritland and Orville Olson. Besides the many beautiful flowers, several gifts of money were given to missions: two to China mission, one to Sunset Home, and one to Randall parochial school. The pall bearers were Dwight Wendel, Frithjof Larson, Palmer Christenson, Torkel Hill, Burton Gandrup and Gerhard Brattebo, all former schoolmates of SCHS.

Among those from a distance who attended were Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Hovland of Clarion, Dwight Wendel of Galveston, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Larson of Oklahoma, Mrs. Elldora Heitritter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jantzen, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fiihr, Mrs. Martha Heitritter and daughter Elsie, Mrs. Martin Baerenwald and Sue Van Deipen, all of Boyden; Mrs. James Bollman of Sheldon, and many relatives and friends of the surrounding community.
