Mary Warren, 70, passed away in her sleep in Techiman, Ghana on Friday, December 16, 2011. She is survived by her daughter Medina Warren of Eagan, Minnesota.
Mary was born in Cape Coast, Ghana. She met her husband, the late Dennis [Mike] Warren when he was serving in the Peace Corps in Techiman. They were married in '68.
In 1972 Mary and Mike moved to Ames when he accepted a professorship in Anthropology at Iowa State University. Together they worked in the Ames community and the State to promote a greater understanding of Africa. Mary will also be remembered for her caring attention to the many ISU students who traveled with them to Ghana and Nigeria.
After the passing of Mike in 1997, she spent half her time in Ames and Techiman. It was Techiman that she found her calling helping the community to develop. For this, she was made an honorary Queen Mother of the town. Mary's funeral was held in Techiman on December 23, 2011. May she rest in peace!
