JIM JENSEN IS LAID TO REST

All that was mortal of the late Jim Jensen was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery last Saturday afternoon. The funeral was held in the Grace church where Rev. Bergeman officiated.

The singing was by a mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. Everett Anderson, Mrs. Wm. Petersen, George Sowers and Arnold Anderson at the piano. The mayor and five city councilmen acted as pall bearers in recognition of the deceased's long connection with the town.

Rev. Bergeman read the following obituary, the data for which was furnished by Mr. Jensen's sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed Jensen:

Obituary

Jens Jensen, more familiarly known as "Jim" was the son of Ole and Martha Jensen (Yttrevold) having been born on the 26th day of October, 1860, at Pontiac, Ill. When a lad of 13 years of age he, with his parents, came to Iowa and at first located in Benton county in the year 1869. Here the family resided for six years, and in 1875 removed to Story county, where he lived until the time of his death, which occurred at his home in Story City Thursday morning, Dec. 26, 1935. Thus he attained the age of 75 years and two months. He was the ninth of a family of 11 children to answer to final summons. Those preceding him were Edward, Jens John, Ole, Mrs. Mary Knutson, Mrs. Aselen Severeide, Andrew Olai, Andrew and an infant brother.

He was married to Lena Lindoen in 1888, and to them two sons were born, who died early in life; their ages having been two and four years respectively. It was in 1893 when his first wife was taken from him by death. He was married a second time, in 1897, when Lina Beland Pederson became his companion and she shared with him the joys and sorrows of life.

He had been a public servant and an employee of the town of Story City for a period of between 35 and 40 years, and during this period had proven himself faithful and dependable. Various duties were thrust upon him in the course of the years, and one of the special obligations for which he will naturally be remembered and in which he took great pride was the raising of the large flag on the town flagpole for national holiday occasions. Having been in the service of the town for so long a period the town officials, consisting of Mayor Henderson and councilmen Chas. Alsager, J. O. Heuer, Bert Hill, Hans S. Nelson and M. C. Townswick, City Clerk James and Supt. T. K. Henderson, at a regular meeting on December 3, adjourned to call upon our friend and to pay their respects and to speak a word of cheer in the days of his illness.

Mr. Jensen lived what is commonly recognized as being a humble life. For many years he saw little use for the church and he failed to grasp the vision for the better, the higher nobler things of life. Consequently he deprived himself of many of richest blessings which life has in store for us. During the past year, however, he came to realize his shortcomings, as a result of faithful work done by Christian friends, and accepted Salvation thru Jesus Christ, our Lord.

He is survived by his companion, two sisters, who are Mrs. Martha Archambault of Superior, Wis., and Mrs. Nels J. Nelson of Story City, besides other relatives and many friends.
