THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 2, 2005.

Darlene Delores Alsager, 77, of Story City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall with burial to follow at Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, with family present after 7 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.

Darlene Alsager was born Dec. 21, 1927, to Hector and Alvina (Johnson) Tjernagel in Radcliffe. She married Lloyd Alsager April 6, 1947, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. They farmed in the Story City area for 43 years and had three sons, Jerry, Dennis and Loren. They moved to Story City in 1984. They enjoyed their home in town by planting trees and flowers, and watching all the birds gather at their birdbath.

For almost 40 years, Darlene cleaned homes in Ames. She loved cleaning and caring for her "extended families." She was a great cook, and everyone gathered around her table to enjoy her holiday dinners: mashed potatoes, cod and lefsa, scalloped corn, banana cream pie and scotcharoos!

Darlene and Lloyd enjoyed traveling, ISU sports and spending time with their grandchildren, whose activities they took a great interest in.

Darlene is survived by two sons, Jerry (Rosemary) Alsager of Ames and Loren (Joan) Alsager of Radcliffe; grandchildren Shari, Jerry, Molly, Lauren and Whitney Alsager; great-grandchildren Jacob, Ben and Anna Weldon and Sidney and Mason Alsager; three sisters, Deloris Arneson of Ellsworth, Phyllis Olson of Sun City, Ariz., and Kathlene Christian of Bloomington, Minn.; and one brother, Lyle Tjernagel of Waukee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her brothers, Hector and Marvin Tjernagel; and her son, Dennis Alsager.

Memorials may be made to Elim Lutheran Church.
