BERDELLA HAUGLAND FUNERAL

Young Lady Died in Ames and Was Laid to Rest Here in Fairview Cemetery

The funeral of Berdella Haugland was held in the Immanuel church Wednesday afternoon, June 19, death having come to her early Monday morning from an acute appendicitis operation. Her death was a great shock to the family and her many friends in the community, and a large concourse of people came to the home and church for the funeral, and the floral tributes were unusually large and beautiful. The pallbearers were six cousins of the deceased; Herman and Arlen Hougland [sic], Abel Tesdall, Abel Hauge, Virgil Bickelhaupt and Clark Sampson. The singing was by Mrs. Gladys Torjussen.

Interment was made at the Fairview cemetery in the family lot. Rev. Heimarck officiated at the home ad church. Besides the floral tributes money was given to missions in memory of the departed.

Among those from a distance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hougland and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Handeland of Pequot, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Bickelhaupt of Hollandale, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hauge and family, and Dutch Rickena of Forest City.

Berdella Beatrice Haugland, daughter of Rangval and Anna Haugland, was born April 13, 1916, on a farm in Lafayette township, and passed away June 17, 1935, at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames. At the time of her death she was 19 years, 2 months and 4 days.

She was baptized when a babe and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church at the age of 14 by Rev. Heimarck.

She was a graduate of the Story City high school with the class of 1934.

Berdella was ever a true and faithful girl, always greeting every one with a smile, and ready to help others. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by her relatives and friends, and certainly will leave an empty space in the home circle.

She is survived by her parents, two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Julia Jewell, Arnold, Luella ad Orvie, all of this place, and a number of relatives and host of friends. One brother preceded her in death in infancy.
