PIONEER WOMAN LAID TO REST

Mrs. Sarah Jorgenson, 81, Died at Her Home Here Friday

Mrs. Sarah Jorgenson, 81, who had been a resident of this neighborhood for the past 78 years, died at six o'clock Friday morning at her home in Story City from hardening of the arteries and other complications, after being bedfast for about a month.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the St. Petri church, of which she had so long been a member, with Rev. S. T. Nelson officiating. The pallbearers were C. F. Johnson, C. L. Johnson, Guy E. Rod, M. T. Hartman, L. O. Jacobson and Ed Wierson.

Special music was rendered at the funeral by the choir, which sang "Nearer My God to Thee," and Mrs. Lester Henderson, who sang, "Den Store Hvide Flok."

Among the out of town relatives and friends at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Nels Jacobson of Mt. Vernon, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. James L. Johnson of St. James, Minn., Mrs. A. A. Jacobson of Mt. Ayr, Minn., Mrs. Grace Jacobson and children of Plankinton, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jacobson of Des Moines, Genevieve Jacobson of Avoca, and Jonas Jacobson of Ord, Nebr.

Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Jacobson, nee Anna Serena Jacobson, was born in Leland, Ill., the daughter of Nels and Helena Jacobson, on March 10, 1859, and passed away at her home in Story City, Jan. 25, 1941, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 15 days.

At the age of 4 she moved to Story county with her parents, where they settled on a farm four miles southeast of Story City. She was confirmed by Rev. Amlund in the St. Petri church, where the six surviving children were also confirmed.

She was married to Nels Jorgenson May 23, 1883. To this union were born ten children, four dying in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1906.

She moved to Story City in 1918, where she lived since.

Those surviving are two sons, Julius and Harvey; four daughters, Mrs. Geo. E. Jacobson, Mrs. Caroline Jacobson and Nora. One sister, Mrs. Jas. L. Johnson of St. James, Minn.; one brother, Nels F. Jacobson of Mount Vernon, S. Dak.; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
