Obituary

Mrs. Charlotte Hemness was born at Horsens, Denmark, August 13, 1871, her parents being Frederick and Sena Peterson [sic]. Her parents immigrated to America the following spring and settled at Racine, Wis. The family moved to Story City a few years later, living there until in 1894, when they moved to Liverpool, Texas. Mrs. Peterson [sic] died in Texas, and then Mr. Peterson [sic] and Charlotte came back to Story City in the fall of 1895.

On Oct. 31, 1895, she was married to Olaf Hemness, and aside from a short time in Vinton and three years in Des Moines, they made Story City their home ever since. Four children were born to Mrs. Hemness, all of whom with the husband survive her. The children are: Fred of North Platte, Neb., Mrs. Orlin Donhowe, Logansport, Ind., Mrs. C. C. Campbell, Des Moines, and Lee of Newton. Her brother, Anton living at South Houston, Tex., is the sole survivor of the Peterson family.

Mrs. Hemness was of a quiet disposition. Her chief interest was the love and care of their family, though before she participated in the general social activities of the community and made many good friends who sincerely grieve over her departure.
