Aged Pioneer Died Last Saturday and Funeral Was Held Here Monday

Lars Omundson, well known for many years in this neighborhood, died last Saturday at his home in the north part of town, following several years of declining strength. He was a few months over 83 years of age.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, with Re.v Scarvie officiating. The pallbearers were: Lewis Ingebritson, Sam Jacobson, A. G. Larson, L. C. Kahrs, B. T. Holm and Dan Johnson. Interment was made at Mamrelund cemetery on the family lot there.

Lars Omundson was born July 5, 1850, in LaSalle county, Illinois, near Ottawa. He moved to Iowa in 1870, when he was 20 years of age, and settled on a farm seven miles north of Story City. In 1873 he was married to Josephine Romsdahl, and to this union nine children were born, six of whom survive him. Mrs. Omundson died in 1891.

Mr. Omundson lived on the farm north of Story City until 1894. After that he lived five years at Graettinger, following which he moved to Story City, and this was his home until death. He had been in failing health for some time, but was seriously sick only about four days. He was a man highly respected by all who knew him, being kind hearted and always a man of his word.

He is survived by his six children, 31 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The children are: Lewis of Roland, Mrs. Edward Sandvig of Roland, Mrs. Edward Anderson of Graettinger, Joseph of Estherville, Nels and Mrs. Anna Olson of Story City.
