Marcus Whitman Minkler, 88, of Colo, passed away August 2, 2012, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
Born to Frederick Charles and Helen Andrews Minkler on October 6, 1923, Marcus spent his life pursuing his dual passions of knowledge and exploration. A brilliant physics instructor at both University of Illinois at Navy Pier and Loyola University Chicago, he chose early retirement in order to travel the world; a fabulous two decade journey that took him all across Europe, Northern Africa, Greece and back home to the United States where he spent the last 25 years of his life always near the Minkler family farm north of Nevada. Marcus was forever consumed by his love of fast cars, the Chicago Cubs, and a neverending quest to definitively prove the authorship of Shakespeare's works (He was an unquestioned advocate for Edward de Vere, 17 Earl of Oxford).
He is survived by his son, Stefan; his daughter, Jessee; and his granddaughter, Catalin. He will be missed.
