CHRIS NELSON DIED AT MORRIS

Former Story City Merchant Passed Away Thursday at His Illinois Home

Christian Nelson, well known to the older people of this community, died at his home in Morris, Ill., Thursday morning, June 22, following an illness of about ten days from complications incident to old age. He was 81 years old.

Funeral services were held at the home in Morris last Saturday, Rev. Carl Gage of the M. E. church officiating, and interment was made in the Mt. Hope cemetery in Chicago.

Lived in Story City

Mr. Nelson was born October 5, 1851, and the earlier years of his life were spent in Story City. He clerked in the Swan general store and later became a partner in the same. In the early 90's he and his family moved to Chicago, where he was connected with one of the large live stock commission houses for about 25 years. Thirteen years ago he moved to Morris, which has since been the family place of residence.

A Quiet, Home Loving Man

When the Nelson family lived here they were connected with the Evangelical church and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were among the early members to maintain that organization here. After moving to Chicago they joined the Methodist church, of which they have been members since. Mr. Nelson was a devout Christian, a dependable man in every walk of life. He is survived by his wife and five children, namely, Mrs. Frank Croft of Denver, Colo.; Herbert Nelson of Des Moines; Walter Nelson of Billings, Mont.; Stanton Nelson of Evanston, Ill., and Marie Nelson, nurse in Morris Paper Mills. Ten grandchildren also survive.

We believe his sisters, Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Hartsell of Eagle Grove, are also still living.
