Obituary
Rev. Paulsrud read the following obituary at the funeral:
Albert Madson was born in Melsvik parish, Sogn, Norway, May 30th, 1846, and passed away at Story City, Oct. 19, 1931. He was at his death 85 years and some over six months old.
He was baptized and confirmed in the same parish in which he was born and there he also spent the days of his youth until he immigrated to America. In 1868, he was united in marriage to Ragnhild Vamraak of Kirkebo parish, Sogn, Norway. To this union six children were born.
In 1874 Mr. Madson, with his wife and one child, left Norway for America, and soon after coming here he settled on his homestead in Clear Lake township, 9 miles southwest of Randall. At this homestead he experienced many of the hardships of the early pioneers.
Eight years after his arrival in this country, 1882, his wife died and left him with five motherless children. This loss, together with the pioneer hardships, must have been a hard experience for Mr. Madson.
A year later, in 1883, he married Sarah Johnson, who faithfully took charge of the motherless children and home. To this last union five children were born.
In 1905 Mr. Madson retired from actual farm work, and with his wife and the two youngest children moved to Story City, where he has lived since.
On Sept. 7th, 1921, his second wife passed away. Since that time his daughter, Julia, has faithfully taken charge of the home and made it pleasant for her father the last years of his life.
Mr. Madson became the father of 11 children. Of these five have preceded him in death. Those who survive him and mourn the loss of a dear father are: Carl Madson, Fargo, n. D.; Andrew, Blue Earth, Minn.; Ole, Stanhope, Iowa; Tom and Julia, Story City, and Ingwald, Zearing, Iowa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mr. Madson was a Christian and as such he was very much interested in church work. For many years he was a charter member of the Clear Lake and Ellsworth congregation, where he had charge of the Sunday school for many years. After moving to Story City he has been a faithful member of Bethel church, where he was working in the Sunday school and held several offices.
The consolation that the family had and also we as a church, is that we believe that he has gone from the militant church here to triumphant church above.
