LARS EIDE LAID TO REST AT HUXLEY
Pioneer of That Neighborhood Died at High Age at Sunset Home in Story City
Lars Eide was born at Fjeldberg, Norway, Feb. 27, 1839, and died at the Sunset Home in Story City Sept. 1, 1931, having reached the ripe age of 92 years and 7 months.
On coming to America in 1857 he settled in Mitchell county, Iowa, where he worked as a laborer. Later he bought a farm in Polk county, several miles south of Fjeldberg church, south of Huxley. There he lived for many years, a pioneer resident of that community. The results of his labors were reflected in a beautiful home and a well kept farm, located among friends and neighbors who held him in high esteem. He made it his home until he retired from active work.
In 1857 he was married to Marie Dyrness. She passed away in 1870. Two years later he was united in marriage to Kari Orland. She preceded him in death in 1921.
He had lived at the Story City Old People's Home for some time. While of an advanced age, he had been in remarkably good health. He started to fail some time ago and had been bedfast three weeks or more, suffering from complications, due to old age.
He is survived by three children--Lars L. Eide of Story City, Peter Eide of Des Moines and Mrs. Bertha Handeland of Brainerd, Minn.
He is also mourned by 32 grand children, 74 great grand children and 9 great great grand children.
