OLE LUND CAME TO AMERICA IN 1872

Was Old Settler in Community Northwest of Story City

Ole Lund was born in Kvindhered, Norway, June 30, 1843, his parents being Ole and Anna Olson Lund. He died at his home in Story City Sunday morning Aug. 30, 1931, at 4 o'clock a.m., reaching the ripe age of 88 years and two months. He had been in failing health for a long time and was bedfast the last ten months of his life.

He came to America in 1872, first settling in Benton county and later in Hamilton county. He was married to Sarah Knutson (Aabe) on Sept. 20, 1879. The went to housekeeping on the old homestead five miles northwest of Story City, where they resided for forty years. The last eleven years they have lived in Story City. They celebrated the golden anniversary of their marriage Sept. 20, 1929.

To this union were born nine children. Of these six survive him; to died in infancy, and Henry, whose death occurred six years ago. He leaves his wife, four daughters and two sons: Mrs. Mary Dyvig and Ole C. Lund of Jewell, Mrs. Bertha Torkelson and Theodore Lund of Story City, Mrs. Emily Christenson of Des Moines, and Mrs. Mabel Olson of Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Olson was unable to be here for his funeral but she spent two months at his bedside last spring. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren, one brother, Jens Lund of Rochester, Minn., and two nephews, Melvin and Gerhardt Lund of Rochester, Minn., besides a host of relatives and friends, both here and in Norway.

Mr. Lund was of a quiet and pleasing disposition, and bore his long illness with patience. Two weeks before his death it was evident that the end was near, and he was content to go to the better land.
