SLIVER IN FINGER CAUSED DEATH OF GUSTAVE LARSON
Funeral of Well Known Local Man Held Monday
Gustave Larson, well known young farmer of this community, died at the local hospital Saturday of last week. Some time ago he ran a sliver into his hand, which festered and finally brot on blood poisoning and ending in lock jaw.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Grace church, Rev. Fuller officiating. The following were pall bearers: Henry Bickelhaupt, Will Oswald, Rangvald Haugland, Nels Laueson, William Holm and Albert Omvig. The ladies choir sang several selections and Mrs. Stanton James a solo. Interment was made in the South St. Petri cemetery. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.
Larson Was Born Here
Gustave Larson was born southwest of Story City Feb. 22, 1883, and died at the Story City Hospital Aug. 29, 1931, at the age of 48 years, 6 months and 7 days, of the dreadful disease.
He was the fifth child of Severt and Anna Larson, both having passed to the Great Beyond several years ago, along with five brothers and sisters, namely: Edward, Carrie, Bertha Lyon, Anna Cattell and Henry, the latter having died in service during the World war. He is survived by two brothers Iver and Lewis, both residing on farms southwest of Story City; also seven nieces and nephews.
He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in St. Petri church at the age of 14 years by Rev. Tanner. "Gussie" as he was more commonly known, had been actively engaged in farming the past thirteen years on a farm near Story City, until ten days ago when he had to give up, and the last week has showed the fighting blood he had in combating that dread disease. All that loving hands could do was done, but even thru it all he was patient and content to go to the better land.
Always ready and willing to lend a hand where needed, he possessed many fine qualities which made him many friends wherever he went, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and especially the brothers.
