MRS. CORNELIUSSEN HEEDS CALL TO THE BETTER LAND

Death Came to Well Known Story City Woman Last Saturday Evening

Mrs. S. R. Cornelussen died at her home in the east part of town last Saturday evening. She had been in failing health for about two years, though only seriously sick since last fall, when she suffered a partial stroke.

Funeral services were held in Grace church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Fuller officiating. A lady's quartet consisting of Mrs. Stanton James, Arlene Jessen, Mrs. T. M. Holm and Margaret Lee sang several selections, with Margaret fuller at the piano.

The pall bearers were Messrs. John H. Johnson, Pete Peterson, Nels P. Larson, Martin Jensen, J. C. Jessen and Hans S. Nelson.

Among those from a distance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Corneliussen of Alta, Mrs. Tena Danielson of Douglas, Mich., Mrs. J. W. Strong of Des Moines and Charles R. Johnson of Clinton.

The business houses of the town closed for the funeral out of respect for the deceased, who with her late husband had been so closely identified with the development of the community.

Obituary

Rev. Fuller read the following obituary at the funeral service:

Dorthea Jensen was born in Denmark Nov. 22, 1856. She departed this life at Story City Saturday, Feb. 7, 1931, aged 74 years, 2 months and 16 days.

She came to America in 1866, settling near Story City. On Christmas Day, 1875, he was united in marriage to S. R. Corneliussen of this community. To this union was born three children, two of whom survive their mother, Carrie having preceded her in death at the age of 32. Mrs. Corneliussen was bereaved of her husband Jan. 30, 1920.

She leaves to mourn her loss two children, F. C. Corneliuusen and Mrs. Mary Schwendener, both of Story City, and two sisters, Mrs. J. Danielson of Douglas, Mich., and Mrs. J. W. Strong of Des Moines, and four grandchildren; also a host of other relatives and friends.

In 1879 the Corneliussens moved into the town of Story City, where they were actively engaged as builders of the community for the remainder of their natural lives. They were prime movers and charter members in the establishment of Grace Evangelical church, which stands today as a monument in part at least to their untiring efforts. Mrs. Cornliussen was president of the Ladies Aid for several years and also teacher of the Bible class. She was also an active member of the P.E.O. Lodge.

While failing health has compelled her to be inactive in the church and community affairs for two years, her heart and well wishes were still with them.
