HENRY JACOBS' LIFE BEGAN IN NORWAY

Mr. Henry Jacobs was born in Valla, Norway, Oct. 4, 1850, and died at his home south of Story City Dec. 27, 1999, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 22 days.

Henry came with his parents to America in 1856 and settled in Grundy county, Illinois. He was married on Dec. 24, 1875, to Jurene Nelson. To this union four children were born, two of whom died in infancy, the others being the sons, Marvin and Oliver Jacobs, now of Story City. The family moved to Clay Center, Kan., in 1879 where Mrs. Jacobs died in 1882.

Mr. Jacobs was again married on June 16, 1887 to Carrie Nelson. They moved to Des Moines in 1888, then to Story City in 1890, and to the present farm in 1898.

Five children were born to this union, two of whom, with their mother have passed away. One little son, Elmer Leo, died in infancy, and one daughter, Agnes, died Sept. 13, 1906, at the age of 13. Mrs. Jacobs died October 1, 19121. The daughters are Mrs. Bertha Johnson, Mrs. Lenora Doolittle and Mrs. Ida Honderd, all of Story City. These with the two brothers and 13 grand children are left to mourn their loss.

These brothers and sisters have been with their father all during his last illness, and have given generous of their time and strength to make his last days comfortable. The daughter, Mrs. Ida Honderd, with her husband moved into the home last spring to help care for him.

Henry Jacobs had lived to a ripe old age, forty years having been spent in the vicinity of Story City. Everyone knew Henry. As a neighbor, he was ever ready to lend a hand, was a generous giver to all social and community activities, enjoying life to the fullest.

It was his dearest wish to celebrate his 80th birthday, and this wish was granted. Surrounded by his children and friends he spent the day as he desired. He will, indeed, be missed, and the sympathy of the community goes out to his faithful family in their hour of sorrow.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral services of the late Henry Jacobs were Mr. and Mrs. Sinky, Ames and Berry Jean, Mrs. Honderd and daughter Rhyner and sons Joe and Bill of Grand Rapids, Mish., Mrs. Mary Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson and son of Clay Center, Kansas.
