OBITUARY

Mrs. E. J. Peterson

Mrs. E. J. Peterson (maiden name, Julia C. Johnson) was born Dec. 23, 1850, and died April 4, 1920, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 17 days. Her parents were Michael Johnson and Anna Marie Phillips-Johnson.

She married to Mr. E. J. Peterson June 14, 1866. To this union twelve children were born. Two children preceded the mother to the better land, one boy in infancy and one boy at 11 years of age, Peter J.

The surviving children are as follows: Mrs. Caroline Nordskog of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Phillops of Story City, Michael J. Peterson of Chugwater, Wyo., Erick D. Peterson of Dodge Center, Minn., Mrs. Julia Wick of Roland, Mrs. Johannah Holland of Randall, Peter J. Peterson of Chugwater, Wyo., Mrs. Sarah Holland of Story City and Gerhard R. Peterson of Dodge Center, Minn. Her husband also survives her, as does a sister, Mrs. Dorthea Oien of Seattle, Wash. and 31 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Peterson belong to that great but passing army of pioneer women who contributed so large a share to the development of this western country. Quiet and home loving, kind and generous hearted, she was beloved in a wide circle of friends and her memory will linger as a blessed inheritance to her children, and her passing is an irreparable loss to her husband, whose faithful companion she was for over half a century.
