From Story City Herald January 23, 1919 (page 7)

Dora Gunder was born in Boone county, Iowa, January 14, 1872, and died at her home near Neligh, Neb., Jan. 17, 1919, aged 47 years and 3 days.

March 2, 1892, she was united in marriage to Herbert J. Smalley and to them were born three sons and three daughters; Mrs. Blanche Marshall of Plain View, Neb.; Josie, Lawrence, Della, Thomas and Harry, all at home.

At the time of the mother's death all five of the above named children at home were sick with the flu, and under the care of three nurses.

Mrs. Smalley had spent all her life in Boone county, Iowa, till five years ago when the family moved to Nebraska. Besides her immediate family of husband, three sons and three daughters she leaves a mother, three sisters and one brother, and many sincere friends to mourn her loss but they who mourn for her, mourn not as they who have no hope. When death came to our sister it found her with her faith in Him who said, "I will come and receive you unto Myself."

The body was brought to Gilbert, Iowa, and funeral services were held at her mother's home in Gilbert, on Sunday, 1:30 P. M., conducted by Rev. H. L. Wissler of the Congregational church, and the body laid to rest in the beautiful little cemetery east of Gilbert.
