Obituary of A. B. Wright

On Saturday evening, Dec. 21, 1918, an old and respected citizen of Gilbert passed to the great beyond.

Abner B. Wright was born in Illinois, September 1, 1842, and died at hsi home in Gilbert, Ia., on December 21, 1918, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 20 days.

On Sept. 6, 1863, he was united in marriage to Jane Porter, and to them were born 10 children, three sons and seven daughters. Those living are: Fred B. Wright, residence unknown; Charles Wright of Dennison, Texas; Mrs. Minnie M. Hughes, Eaton, Colo.; Mrs. Fanny Stephenson of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Kathryn Blair of Omaha, Neb.; and Mrs. Bessie B. Chance of Sioux City, Iowa.

On July 29, 1901, the mother of this family died.

On March 17, 1903, Mr. Wright was united in marriage to Mary A. Shannon of Indiana.

The deceased spent most of his life near Clinton, Ill., moving to Gilbert about 27 years ago. Before coming to Gilbert he had been a member of the M. E. church, but never united with any church in this place.

He had not been in good health for many years and during the past few months had been a great sufferer. Death came not as a surprise, for he appreciated his condition and was looking for the final summons.

He leaves besides his wife and children, fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many friends.

Private funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, the Rev. Wissler of the Gilbert Congregational church officiating. Mrs. B. D. Kent rendered two songs. Interment was made in the Gilbert cemetery.

Mrs. Wright and the children have our sympathy in their loss.
