OBITUARY
John Oswald.
John Oswald was born Dec. 12, 1843 in Wittenburg, Germany and died May 14, 1918, near Story City, Ia. He was 74 years, 5 months and two days old.
He came to America in the fall of 1868.
On Dec. 10, 1869 he was united in marriage to Amelia Birkenholtz at Monroe, Iowa where they lived on a farm two years. In the spring of 1872 they moved to Story county where he has resided until the time of his death.
Five children were born to this union, namely Mathias, Joseph and Wilhelm, two dying in infancy. The wife with the three sons and their families are left to mourn the loss of the husband and father. Four grand children and one great grandchild and a niece, Mrs. J. B. Thomas, of Ames, survive him.
He was a kind neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed by his friends and neighbors.
The family were all at his bedside when he passed away. Relatives who were here from a distance to attend the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Biehl, Mrs. Gust Birkenholtz and son Willie of Monroe, Mr. Chas. Eggert of Newton, Mrs. Geo. Hanna of Lonerock, Mrs. J. T. Jensen of Clarion. The body was interred in Center cemetery.
