Obituary.

John Butler died at his home in story City Sunday morning from an attack of blood poison which prostrated him some time ago. Mr. Butler came to America in 1869. The first ten years he made his home in Illinois, coming to Story City in 1879, when he and John Molstre engaged in the grain and lumber business. He bought Mr. Molstre's interest in 1889 and in 1894 he sold the business to E. L. Erickson & Co. He has been connected with the state bank ever since it organization in 1891.

In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Munson, who died in the year of 1886. Altie, and two children who died at an early age, were born to this union. In 1890 he was married to Miss Maggie Hoppestad who survives him. To them were born two children, Melvin and Angie.

He was a public spirited man and has been closely identified with the progress Story City has made in the past twenty-five years. He was successful in a business way and by his ability and keen foresight in all matters relating to business he accumulated a goodly portion of the world's goods.

He was a familiar figure on our streets and his cheerful smile and genial disposition made him a friend of everyone.

The funeral was held at the St. Petri church Wed. afternoon at 2 o'clock where the relatives and a large concourse of friends gathered to pay their parting respects to the dead. The services were conducted by Rev. Vangsness. The remains were laid to rest in the Story City cemetery.
