DEATH'S HARVEST

Ole O. Tegland

Ole O. Tegland was born at Skaanevig, Norway, Dec. 3, 1817, and died at his home Thursday, Jan. 18, 1906, at the ripe age of 88 years. He immigrated to this country in 1849 and settled in Kendall county, Ill., where in the same year he was united in marriage to Miss Ingeborg Markhus, who survives him. Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom are living, Ole of Clarion, Ia.; George, of Ballard, Wash.; John Peter, Freeman, Minn.; Mrs. John Donhowe of this city; Alice, living with her mother; Josephine, Kenwick, Wash. and Lewis of this place. All were present at the funeral of the father.

Mr. Tegland, though having reached an advanced age, still retained good health until recently while his mental faculties were unusually active until the last.

Mr. Tegland, though not of the earliest, was an old settler here, having lived in the county more than thirty years, and was known as a man of upright character, devoted to the interests of his family, a kind and obliging neighbor, and his death removed an excellent citizen from our midst.

The funeral services were held at the St. Petri church, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Vangsnes officiating. The church was taxed to its utmost capacity in seating the large concourse of sorrowing friends who gathered to pay their parting respects to the dead.
