OBITUARIES

NELS SYDNESS

Nels M. Sydness was born in Fjeldberg, Sondherdland, Norway, Nov.13, 1846, and died at the Old People's Home, Story City, March 2, 1934, at the age of 88 years.

Sixty-eight years ago, in 1866, he came to this country and settled at Huxley. Three years later, Nov. 13, 1871, he was united in marriage to Bertha Anfinson of Huxley. To this union 8 children were born, of whom three have preceded him in death. After his marriage the family lived near Huxley for some years, after which they moved to Glenflora, Wis., where they lived 18 years. The last 15 years both Mr. and Mrs. Sydness have lived at the Old People's Home in Story City.

Mr. Sydness was engaged in farming both in Iowa and Wisconsin. At Huxley he was a member of the Lincoln Lutheran church. He was a Christian gentleman whose joy it was to serve the Lord, and in the Lord he committed his soul in death.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife and five children, namely: Martha Seversike of Clarinda, Sophia Severeide of Fort Worth, Texas, Lydia Gerhardt of Duluth, Minn., Nels Sydness of Lindsey, Wis., and Saben Sydness of Huxley.

He was buried Tuesday, March 6. A short service was held at the chapel of the Old People's Home, where the superintendent, A. Molstre, spoke. The funeral services were conducted in the Bethel church where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A quartet sang, "Abide with Me." Interment was in Fairview cemetery.

The following were the pall bearers: Wier, Zach, Norris and Stanley Sydness and Leland and Rudolph Seversike. They were all grandchildren of Mr. Sydness.
