Obituary
Asenath Yerger Hiller was born in Winterset, Iowa, Feb. 24, 1868, of Rev. J. F. Yerger and Anna Grater Yerger. She was the fourth child of the family, all of whom have passed on, except one sister, Mrs. Mabelle Gray of Chicago, who survives.
She early moved with her parents to Des Moines where she lived her early childhood. Later she lived in Colo and Vinton, where her father, Rev. Yerger, held pastorates. Later the family moved to a farm near Battle Creek, then to Cherokee county, where her father served rural churches.
In Cherokee county she was married to Lewis J. Hiller on Feb. 24, 1887 and to this union were born two children, Frederick Y. Hiller and Ruth Hiller. Her residence continued there until 1905 when the family moved for a time to Nebraska, but returned to Iowa, locating in Sioux county.
In January, 1910, the Hiller family moved to the present family address, 223 Douglas Ave., Des Moines, where she lived to the close of her life, which occurred September 25, 1941.
Mrs. Hiller was an active member of the First Evangelical church in Des Moines. She was always active in church work; as a young woman she gave of her time and talent directing choirs and as the church organist. She was devoted to her church, trusted deeply in her Creator, held the highest ideals and had a sense of justice. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother, sympathetic and generous. Those who are left to mourn her departure will always be inspired by her life.
