DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.

John Clements [sic], living at Zenorville, died Monday evening about six o'clock, Jan 27, 1908. The funeral was held Wednesday in the Zenorville church, Rev. Yerger officiating, and the remains were then taken to the Ontario cemetery for interment. His death was due to no particular disease but was rather the result of the exhaustion of his vital forces.

John Clements [sic] was born Nov. 1, 1826, near Belfast, Ireland, of Scotch-Irish parents. He came to America in 1850. He was located in Illinois until 1859, when he went to the gold fields of California. He was engaged in gold mining until 1867, when he returned to Ireland and was married to Elenor McClement, Feb. 1, 1868. He then came to America and located in Iowa, where he has since lived until death, Jan 27, 1908, aged 81 years, 2 months and 28 days. Mr. Clemens was known to many people in this part of the state through his connection with the coal mines at Squaw Creek, and he had the reputation for sterling uprightness in all his dealings.
