SAM SALDAL IS CALLED HENCE

DEATH COMES LAST FRIDAY MORNING AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Samuel Torbjorn Saldal died at his home in the south part of town last Friday morning, after an illness extending over several years. The funeral was held Monday in the St. Petri church, Rev. Halvorson conducting the same and preaching from the Easter narrative of St. Luke.

The deceased was born in Norway and came to this country when he was 31 years old. This was twenty-six years ago, so he was 57 years old at the time of his death. For a number of years he worked as a contracting carpenter and builder here, but for quite a while had been unable to carry on his business having bee stricken with the "white plague," consumption. Against this dread malady he waged a hard fight for several years, but without avail. During the last few weeks he had become reconciled to his fate and his mind turned more and more to the things eternal, the place where sin and sickness, sorrow and death are to be banished forever.

He leaves, besides the widow, a son and daughter, to mourn his departure. The son, Clarence, works in Milwaukee, Wis., and the daughter, Mabel, has a position in Des Moines. Both were here for the funeral of their father, whose death left them orphans.
