OBITUARIES

Mrs. F. W. Shultis

Nettie Holmes was born in Story county, Iowa, July 31, 1874. At the age of fourteen her father died and being the oldest of six children, she shared with her mother many of the responsibilities of keeping the family together and bringing up the younger children. She enjoyed the advantages afforded by the country school near their farm, and later attended high school.

She fitted herself for teaching at Highland Park college, Des Moines, Iowa. She taught for several years in country and village schools. While teaching at Story City, Iowa, she met Professor Shultis, whom she later married.

The first nine years of her married life were spent in Iowa. She came in 1906 with her husband and children to Colorado. They lived at Canon City five years, moving to Greeley in 1911.

In her girlhood she identified herself with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she had remained a consistent and faithful member. She was a very active worker in the church while she was able to attend its services.

About four years ago she was attacked with disseminated cerebro-spinal sclerosis. She soon became a helpless invalid, succumbing by slow degrees to the ravages of the disease. Her illness was not attended by any physical suffering. She retained possession of her faculties to the last.

Besides her husband, Professor Frank W. Shultis of the college faculty, she leaves two children, Arthur and Esther; a foster child Mrs. R. J. Back; three sisters, Mrs. Willard John, Muskogee, Okla.; Mrs. J. B. Olinger, Montrose, Colo. and Mrs. H. W. Brettell, Littleton, Colo., and a brother, James W. Holmes, La Salle, Colo--From the Greeley, Colo., Tribune
