From the Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, January 31, 1924.

COUNTY PIONEERS CALLED BY DEATH

Lafe McKim of Nevada and Charles F. Wiers of Story City, Pioneers, Died at Their Homes Last Week. Both Burials Held Today.

Lafayette McKim, for nearly fifty-four years a resident of Story County, passed away at his home in Nevada Friday morning at the age of seventy-eight years. The cause of his death was the effects of a series of paralytic strokes the latest of which occurred early Friday morning. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon and interment took place in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. McKim was a native of Terre Haute, Illinois, and was united in marriage on January 31, 1870 to Mary J. Logan and shortly afterwards they came to Iowa where they decided to make their home. He bought a farm in Milford township which he still owned at the time of his death. Adding to his first land holdings from time to time they were now quite large in that part of the county. Mr. and Mrs. McKim lived upon their farm for forty-one years and in 1911 moved off the farm into a new home in Nevada where they have lived since in retirement.

Mr. McKim was recognized as one of the progressive farmers of the county and during his forty-one years on the farm specialized in stock feeding, and in that line of business made a splendid success. He was also a man of sterling character and his friendship was valued by many.
