From The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 27, 1923.

Sadie Erickson Winch

Mrs. Sadie Erickson Winch was born on the farm of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Erickson, near Roland, Iowa, July 15, 1883. There she spent the early days of her life, later moving with her parents to Story City, where she was for some years a prominent business woman.

She received her education in the Story City schools and in the Jewell and St. Olaf colleges.

In 1917 she was married to Mr. Grover A. Winch, since which time she and her husband made their home in Cleveland, O.

It was while horseback riding near Cleveland on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 18, that the accident happened which caused her untimely death. It seems she had gotten somewhat behind the other ladies she was riding with, and in spurring up her horse the jolt seems to have unseated her and she fell to the stone-surfaced road. She struck her head with such force that she never regained consciousness, death following about five hours after the accident happened.

The remains were brought to Story City for burial, the fu neral being held last Saturday afternoon in the presence of a concourse of people which more that filled the big Immanuel church. The service was in charge of Rev. Paulsrud, assisted by Rev. Heimarck.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Winch leaves to mourn her death her mother, three sisters and one brother, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
