MRS. CHRISTENSON WAS BORN IN VALDERS
She Came to Story City Fifty-one Years Ago and Died Jan. 27
Mrs. Martha Christenson, whose death occurred at the hospital here January 27th, was born in Valders, Norway, May 25, 1853, and was thus at the time of her death a few months short of 76 years of age. As a young girl she came to America and settled in Wisconsin, where she met and married Christen Christenson. Her maiden name was Martha Oleson.
She and her husband, with their first child, Charlie, came to Story City in 1878, and for the fifty-one years since she made her home here. Her husband was one of the town's early shoemakers and continued in that trade up till his death a few years ago.
Her funeral was held in the St. Petri church, Rev. Scarvie officiating, and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in Fairview cemetery. A quartet, consisting of Mrs. Halverson, Alvena Holm, O. K. Helvig and Rev. Scarvie sang a special number. The pall bearers were: Oliver Alsager, E. N. Rognchaug, Martin Jensen, Halvor Knutson, Ben Amlund and P. A. Olson.
The surviving children, who were all present at the funeral are: Mrs. Emma Boyd of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Mary Olson of Des Moines, Henry, John and Milford of Minneapolis; also four grandchildren.
May she rest in peace!
